The Championship match pitting USIU Martials and Northern suburbs set for Saturday March 14 now hangs in balance.
The match scheduled to take place at the former’s backyard has been hit by a snag following the school’s directive to withdraw from all sporting events both locally and internationally, a move taken as a measure to prevent the spread of Coronavirus.
Scrummage understands that USIU Martials have written to the Kenya Rugby Union informing them about the university’s directive. According to the Head coach Tom Lagat, they will know the way forward after the union response.
In a statement released by the University earlier in the morning, the school has given a directive cancelling all events within and out of the school until the end of March, sporting events being one of them.
“Due to the unpredictable nature of the outbreak and its potential impact on attendees, we regret to inform you that the following events have been cancelled:
All Culture Week Activities, The planned sports teams & Admissions Department trip to Uganda. All sports tournaments within and outside the country.” Reads part of the statement from the school’s official website.
USIU was to take on Nothern Suburbs in the first Quarter finals playoff on Saturday 4th March 2020 at the USIU grounds, the winner making a short trip to Madaraka to face Strathmore in the semi-finals. The two sides have faced of once in the regular season, USIU leaving it late to down Suburbs 22-18 at their backyard.
