New Zealand win Vancouver 7s

World 7s Series leaders New Zealand are the Vancouver 7s winners after edging Australia 17-14 in the final staged at BC Place.

Australia visited New Zealand end and managed to leave with seven points after three minutes of play. Lachie Anderson ‘s try was converted by Lewis Holland. Joe Ravouvou trimmed the gap with an unconverted try for New Zealand.

The Aussies were able to extend their lead after Maurice Longbottom scored the second try for Australia while Holland added the twos from a conversion for a nine-point lead heading to the break.

New Zealand came from the break looking stronger and scored at the ninth minute via Andrew Knewstubb. Koroi converted the try to cut the gap back to two points.

Ravouvou’s second try in the match saw New Zealand overtake Australia and held on the slim lead to win the trophy

This marks New Zealand ‘s third Cup victory this season after Cape Town and Hamilton.
