Kakamega to face Koyonzo in the County 15s final

Kakamega County Defending Champions Kakamega High will battle Koyonzo in the 15s finals slated for St Peters Mumias on Saturday 7 March morning.

It will be a repeat of last years final which Kakamega won 14-5. The two sides met three times in the finals last year with Kakamega proving to be superior by winning all of them.

Route to the final

To reach the final,  Kakamega beat hosts St Peters 20-0. Amos Wamanga coached side scored three tries to see off the former Champions.

The Barbarians drilled in a penalty through Wilberforce Ayiecha . Zachary Olwal would cross over for the opening try and Ayiecha’s conversion ensured a 10-0 lead at halftime.

In the second half, Felix Otieno dotted the second try to stretch the lead to 15 points and Ayiecha sealed their victory with the final try.  Kakamega had eliminated Kilimani in the quarters while in the pool phase they saw off Lubinu with a 36-0 win, thrashed Lugari 53-0 and whipped Makhokho 64-0.


Koyonzo beat Kivaywa 29-0 in the other semifinal to reach the finals for the second time in a row. Emmanuel Oketch, Bashir Alubia , Glen Omondi, Joshua Shisia and Eugene Barasa were all on the scoresheet in the win.

Koyonzo also had a fine run on their march to the finals as they whipped Kilimani and Ingotse on day one.
