Vihiga County Rugby 15s School games commenced on Thursday with 10 matches taking place at Chavakali High School.
Defending Champions Ebusiloli were handed a 20-0 defeat by host Chavakali but bounced back to winning ways by beating Kaimosi 19-7 in the second match. Kaimosi also redeemed themselves and went on to pummel Ekwanda 62-0 in their second match.
Vihiga blow away Ekwanda
Last year’s finalists Vihiga started off their campaign on a high whipping Ekwanda 61-0. Ramadhan Abdala produced a man of the match performance as he scored five tries for Vihiga and they were all converted by Martin Muteshi.
Muteshi also got on the scoresheet with a try and converted it. Vihiga Captain Bronson Asena landed unconverted try while Muteshi sealed their victory by adding two penalties.
Draw
In the second match, they had to share spoils with Chavakali after a 3-3 fulltime score. There were no tries in the clash but each side managed a penalty for the spoils.
Vihiga coached Sebastian Ochieng who works together with Coach Abdalla says their target is to scoop both the 7s and 15s titles in the tournament.
“As Vihiga coaches we are looking forward to lifting both 7s and 15s at the county level,” Seba who plays for MMUST told the Scrummage.
Mbale started off impressively in their Pool B matches. They beat Emusire 12-7 and bagged 22-0 win over Senende. Kegoye also won their opening matches.
The matches will continue on Friday while the semis are set for Saturday.
