Kenya 7s players stats after Los Angeles

Kenya 7s once again failed to live up to the expectations on the World 7s Series stage, picking just three points from the Los Angeles 7s despite boosting the squad with experienced Oscar Ouma, Jacob Ojee, Sammy Oliech and Dan Sikuta.

Paul Feeney charges managed just two wins out of the six matches played in the tournament. Kenya scored 18 tries, conceded 21, got eight conversions right, made 77 tackles in the two-day event.

Upto date, Shujaa have a total of 369 points, following 61 tries and 32 conversions. The team has made 292 tackles in their 22 matches played this season.


Vincent Onyala who was deployed as a centre had a good outing despite the team’s struggles. He scored five tries to become Kenya 7s top scorer in the event. The KCB Rugby man has now overtaken Alvin Otieno to become Shujaa’s leading scorer with 11 tries after five tournaments.

Alvin Otieno did not score in Los Angeles but he stays second with eight tries. He is tied with Willy Ambaka who scored three tries in Los Angeles which was his 50th tournament.

Collins Injera has five tries to his name. He only featured in two matches last weekend. Andrew Amonde has moved to four tries after scoring one try last weekend. Johnstone Olindi who missed the outing stays on four tries.

Daniel Taabu is the player who has contributed more points to Kenya 7s scoring chats with 57 points. The points emanate from three tries and 21 conversions he has scored this season.

Onyala’s 11 tries total to 55 points for Kenya while Buffa Otieno and Ambaka have 40 points each. Injera 31 and Olindi 30 are in the top six.

Amonde had the most tackles in Los Angeles (nine) while Oliech, Sikuta, Ambaka had eight tackles each.  Four tackles in USA have seen Billy Odhiambo remain top on Kenya 7s overall list.

Olouch and Onyala have made 27 tackles this season while Amonde and Olindi have 25 tackles.

Clean breaks

Onyala had the most number of cleans breaks in Los Angeles (five). He has nine clean breaks this season while Otieno, Ambaka, Injera and Olindi are in the top five list of clean most  breaks for Kenya.

Olouch is leading the list of most carries this season. Billy, Onyala and Amonde are in the top five. Kenya will be back in action on Saturday on 7 and 8 March for Vancouver 7s.
