Kenya 7s had earlier revived their quarterfinal dream after beating Ireland 29-12 in the second match of the pool but the loss to Canada locked them out.
In the Ireland match, Vincent Onyala who started the match as a back scored a hattrick to help Kenya win. Onyala dotted the opening try at the second minute while Oscar Dennis added the second try for a 12-0 lead at the break.
Collins Injera scored the third try before Ireland pulled back through Terry Kennedy and George O’shea. Onyala returned to the scoresheet at the 13th and 15th minute to put the game beyond Ireland.
Ireland, however, qualified for the quarters after drawing 19-19 with South Africa in the final match of the Pool.
