Menengai Oilers have booked a date with Homeboyz in the playoffs after defeating Kenya Harlequins 39-13 in Moi Showgrounds, Nakuru.
Just as the dust was almost settling in the first 40, Mark Kwemoi, the Oilers fullback found his way over the tryline bringing the entire home crowd to their feet. Kwemoi converted his own try to take the scores to 10-5.
Kenya Harlequins canceled Kwemoi’s efforts early in the second half to draw level at 10-10. Minutes later, wing Timothy Okwemba would land the hosts second try to regain the lead at 15-10. Mark Kwemoi stretched Olilers’ lead further after splitting the posts from a penalty to give the hosts an 18-10 lead.
Quins drilled in a penalty before lock substitute Javan Ateh added another try for the hosts few minutes later. Mark Kwemoi sure with the boot drilled in the conversion to take the scores to 25-13.The momentum seemed to favour the Nakuru-based side and Harlequins defense couldn’t manage to contain Aziz Anan, the burly backrower from scoring the bonus point try for the men in luminous green . The former Impala man, Mark Kwemoi converted the try for a 32-13 scoreline.
The bonus point victory have steered Oilers to Kenya Cup playoffs in their second year of asking. They will battle it out with the vast improved Deejayz at Jamhuri grounds in a fortnight.
