14-man Kabras power past Impala

Kabras completed a double over Impala Saracens following a 37-26 win in a Kenya Cup match staged at Impala Club on Saturday.

After Kabras won the first leg 27-3, it was a chance for Impala to pull one back, this time a chance to do it in their own backyard.

Table leaders Kabras were under pressure to maintain their lead which will assure them a home final while the Gazzelles were keen to maintain their stay in the playoff spots.

Both teams are on course for a Kenya cup semi-final date if they maintain their current positions until the completion of the regular season and Impala overcome the quarter-final huddle.

Jonah Kubu hit first for the visitors, taking an intercept in the middle of the pitch before racing away to score. Paul Abuto extended the Sugarmen lead shortly afterwards. Kubu was unable to add the extras on both occasions leaving the scores 0-10.

The home side then found the spark they needed after Alvin Marube pounced on an intercept to score right under the posts on the opposite side. Anthony Odhiambo was on mark some moments later with Xavier Kipngetich adding the extras to give the home side the lead for the first time in the match.

Kabras would laugh last, scoring through Asuman Mugerwa to go into the break leading 14-17.

Kubu scored a three-pointer early in the second stanza before Brian Tanga produced a moment of magic to dance his way past the Impala defence to take the scores to 14-27.

Substitute scrum-half Barry Robinson was shown the red card barely ten minutes after his introduction for a dangerous tackle on Billy Omondi.

Kubu then scored his second to take the scores to 17-37 after also drilling in a penalty. Impala, on the other hand, scored two tries, one from the back of a maul and another in the dying stages through Steve Otieno to cut the deficit. The scores at full time 26-37.
