KCB held off stiff opposition from Strathmore Leos to win 27-3 setting themselves up for the quarter final stage of the Enterprise Cup.
The bankers were eliminated by Impala 15-11 in the semi finals of the competition last year.
The Leos did not manage a single try on the evening despite putting their best foot forward and giving the bankers a run for their money, KCB managing four tries past the stubborn students defence.
Strathmore Leos started off all cylinders firing, forcing the Kenya cup champions to make mistakes from time to time.
Michael Wanjala then paid for the sins of the men in green, spending 10 minutes in the bin for a naughty tap on Arnold Muita at the scrum, much to the annoyance of head coach Curtis Olago.
The students struck first with a three pointer courtesy of Muita to leave the home team chasing the game early on.
Continued pressure from the Leos proved futile as KCB held strong to let Wanjala get back into the proceedings.
Nelson Nyandat was on mark for the bankers, puffing and huffing to carry the ball over the white chalk, the conversion attempt by Levy Amunga hitting the uprights.
Amunga would add a penalty to make it 8-3 in what was turning out to be a hotly contested first half.
KCB started the second half strongly and it would take them under seven minutes for another front rower Patrick Ouko to burge his way over, Amunga sure with his boot again to take the scores to 15-3.
Substitute and fast rising Mike Kimwele scored on his first touch of the ball, producing brilliant foot work before showing great speed to touch down at the corner to make it 20-3.
The home side which was slowly but surely starting to dominate the contest got another try through Steve Wamai from the back of a maul, Isaac Njoroge slotting in the resulting twos to take the scores to 27-3.
