Machine withstand Egerton Wasps comeback to pick win

Mean Machine picked a slim 18-15 win over Egerton Wasps in a midweek KRU Championship game played in Njoro.

The clash was to be played on 21 December but was postponed, leaving the two sides with one pending fixture to play. In the clash, Machine started off strongly and scored 13 unanswered points in the first half.

Fly-half Festus Shiasi drilled in two penalties at the ninth and 30th minute before winger Johnmark Awiti crossed over for the first try of the day. Shiasi returned to the scoresheet with two more points from a conversion for a 13-0 lead.

In the final half, centre Odhiambo landed the second try which put Machine at 18 points after 18 minutes of play in the half.

Three minutes later, Leon Nyang pulled back with a penalty before landing a try and the 64th minute of the clash. Machine substitute was given marching orders at the 78th minute and a minute later Wasps scored a try via Emmanuel Walela.

Nyang’s conversion saw them come three points behind Machine. Machine, however, held on to win. The win sees Machine move to 44 points 10 behind second-placed MMUST while Egerton have 28 points same as USIU.

Focus shifts on the Enterprise Cup where Machine are set to play Impala.
