Fast-rising Koyonzo have scooped both the Maseno Amadi 7s and 15s trophy in the tournament held at Maseno Grounds on Saturday and Sunday.
To win the 15s, Koyonzo beat host Maseno School 6-0 in the final. Emmanuel Oketch drilled in two penalties to help the side beat Maseno in the final.
Koyonzo had earlier eliminated Ambira at the semi-final stage following Grant Peter and Okech tries for a 15-0 win while Maseno beat Kabianga 12-7 to reach the final. The side scored 71 points in the tournament and conceded just three points.
The victory leaves the side as one of the favourites heading to the Kenya Secondary School games having also performed impressively last year, reaching 2019 Western Region 15s final and the Prescott Cup final. On both occasions, Koyonzo lost to Kakamega High.
Koyonzo also bagged the 7s trophy beating last year’s Western Region finalists Vihiga High by a solitary try scored by James Mulati.
The Kakamega county side earlier beat Dr Gumbi 41-5 in the quarterfinals while they eliminated Musingu 14-5 courtesy of Mulati and Moses Matonda’s converted tries. Vihiga beat Makhoko and Esalwa to reach the finals.
The schools were using the tournament to warm up for the School games which are set to kick off in February.
