Kenya 7s finish 16th in Sydney after Samoa defeat

Kenya 7s finished last in the Sydney 7s picking a point after losing all matches including a 15th place playoff 19-12 loss to Samoa at Bankwest Stadium.

After three straight losses at the pool phase, Kenya were hoping to end their winless run in the tournament.  They did not, however, start off well as they allowed Tofatu Solia to slip past them and score the opener.

Willy Ambaka had to make a brilliant tackle to deny Philip Luki another try. Kenya would level the scores after Alvin Otieno’s powerful run on the left-wing which saw him offload to supporting Ambaka for a converted try that put Shujaa two-points up heading to the break.

In the second half, Shujaa had its struggles once more and they conceded the second try after allowing Elisapeta Alofipo to beat the defence line to score at the centre for a converted try.

Collins Injera took matters in his own and paced down the field before setting up Vincent Onyala for a try that tied the scores. Samoa would strike again using a kick to beat Kenya,s defence to score via Paul Scanlan, a try which was converted for 19-12 win.

Meanwhile, South Africa will be in the finals for a clash against Fiji after they beat USA and England respectively
