Kenya 7s finished eighth at Hamilton 7s picking 10 points following a 19-17 defeat to Argentina in the seventh-place playoffs.
Shujaa headed to this clash after an impressive display against South Africa and were hoping to finish on a high. For the first time in this tournament, the side conceded first allowing the Argentines to score a converted try through Felipe del Mestre.
Kenya responded with three tries before halftime with Nelson Oyoo scoring the first try for Kenya at the centre while Johnstone Olindi added the extras. Speedstar Collins Injera would then round his markers on the right-wing to score Kenya’s second.
Willy Ambaka send Kenya 7s 17-7 up scoring the third try before the halftime break. The team lost Vincent Onyala who limped off before the second try.
In the closing half, Mestre got his second try to bring his side back in the game and Franco Sabato’s 11th minute try put them two points above Kenya. In the dying minutes, Argentina earned a penalty and opted to kick for points but they couldn’t hit the target ending the game with a narrow 19-17.
Meanwhile, New Zealand will make their third final appearance having beaten Australia 17-14 to book a date with France.
