Kenya Lionesses have landed an invite to feature in the second last round of the 2019/2020 Women’s World Sevens Series slated for 2-3 May 2020 in Canada, the Kenya Rugby Union has confirmed
This year will mark the fifth edition of the tournament commonly known as Langford 7s. The Lionesses will use the tournament which is 100 days away to get ready for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
The tournament is usually hosted at Westhills Stadium and New Zealand’s Black Ferns have won it four times. Their victory came in 2015, 2017, 2018 and 2019 while England won it in 2016.
The team kick off the 2020 campaign by taking part in the World 7s Series qualifiers tournament scheduled for Hong Kong in April 03 – 05. Kenya booked a slot in the qualifiers after finishing second in the Africa Women’s 7s Tournament held in Tunisia after losing to South Africa in 2019’s Final.
Kenya fell at the semis in last year’s qualifiers and will be keen to do better in 2020. The team kicked off it’s training on 6 January in preparation for the assignments.
