Following their massive 44-0 victory over Western Bulls, Blak Blad coach Williams Motto is confident of staying in Kenya Cup for yet another season despite being in relegation zone at the moment with five games still to play.
Motto who masterminded the Bulls’ demolition attributes the win to not only the 80 minutes on the pitch but a whole week of preparation, cultivating the winning mindset amongst his boys since the day they left Ruaraka after being hammered by 81-10 KCB, a defeat he terms the worst of the season.
“The boys were up to the task and they gave their all. I can say the game was not won in the 80 minutes that we played here but we started winning it as soon as we left the KCB’s game because the boys saw the relegation being imminent and they started talking about winning. The boys really trained like winners this past week. The attitude in the camp was top notch, everybody really wanted it. Last week was the worst defeat of the season, this is the best victory of the season, “Williams told Scrummage.
The coach was also quick to congratulate the remarkable shift staged by his fowards saying that they formed the backbone of the win because they dominated in the setpieces in turn giving their backs a go forward ball in which they maximized fully and got most tries from led by the deadly winger Archadius Khwesa, who landed 3 tries.
” 15s is a forwards game and my forwards really wanted it more, they set the platforms, gained the hard yards and the backs were just finishers. We dominated in the setpieces and that is very commendable. As a team, when you dominate in the setpieces, you are good as a victor in that match, “Motto said.
The Blak blad coach urges his charges to not slow down after conjuring the Bulls victory as they believe they have what it takes to compete for the playoffs position even though they are still trapped in the danger of being relegated at the moment. He says they should shift now.
” From the performance, having got the five points and reducing our negative by 44 points, I believe we have 100% chance of staying in the top league. The boys should not now settle after this win because we as a team we believe we can even compete for the playoffs positions of which is very possible. In as much as we are battling relegation I think we should shift our focus to solidating a position in the top six, “added the ambitious Blad coach.
Blak blad sits at position 10 with 13 points same as Western Bulls who occupy position 11 but the Kenyatta University outfit has a superior goal difference as an advantage. With five games remaining, Motto is targeting to win at least three of the to stay in the top tier.
“Next week we are starting to play the return leg of of our pools. If you look at our pool, it is relatively much easier on paper. To me it’s possible to win three games out of the five remaining”
In the remaining games, Blak Blad will play three away matches and then play host to two of them. They will travel to Mwamba before coming home to entertain Impala, the Thika Road based side will then visit Nondescripts before hitting the road to play Kisumu RFC.
