With the championship competition back in action, the University grounds was host to the first two matches of the year pitting Northern Suburbs against UoE which ended 25-16 and Catholic Monks against USIU Martial which Martial won 27-15.
The University of Eldoret students were first on the field against Surbubs and Fidens Tony returned givings Suburbs the first appearance in the score sheet after booting in two penalties in the first 10 minutes.
Edwin Kimeto stung back with a try barely three minutes later,the conversion was not good though. UoE inched closer through a penalty in the 20th minute that would leave the score sheet unchanged till the halftime break.
Six minutes after the break Edison Kimeto entered the score sheet giving the visitors a 13-8 lead. Suburbs captain Wilfred Waswa, however, made a response handing his side five points through a try, Fidens Onyango managed to have the points through making the scores equal.
UoE first try scorer Edwin Kimeto was sin binned in the 70th minute and Suburbs won the game through tries from Benson Amadi and Eugene Omondi beating guests UoE 25-16. UoE got two penalties which did not help change scores.
USIU, on the other hand, opened the year on a high note beating catholic monks 27-15. Monks tries were scored by outside centre Victor Owupere and flyhalf Allan Musyoka,a penalty conversion from inside centre Max added their side three points.
USIU martials entered the score sheet through a drop kick goal by Martin Juma while in the second half Allan James and Nyote Wakanyote both made tries in the 48th and 57th minute. Francis Otieno and Fred Michael came off the bench to seal the victory making the last two tries in the 74th and 79th minute ending the game 15-27.
