13-try KCB swat Blak Blad

Kenya Cup defending Champions KCB opened the year in style with 81-10 thrashing of Blak Blad at the Ruaraka grounds.

The bankers dominated the show from start to finish, running in 13 tries past a stunned Blak Blad side.

The champions were quick off the start, Davis Chenge bullying his way over the white chalk allowing Darwin Mukidza to add the extra twos to give the hosts a 7-0 lead.

Gathu Kelvin pulled back three points for the students before the Lions extended their lead through with another try, Mukidza adding the extras to make it 14-3.

A returning Andrew Amonde put his name on the board in what was becoming a one-sided contest before Johnstone Olindi dotted down KCB’s fourth to secure a bonus point.

A quick tap by Mike Wanjala from a penalty inside Blad’s five-metre mark saw the scrumhalf go over to take the scores to 33-3 with ten minutes left on the clock.

Curtis Lilako and George Maranga were on the mark to sign off a dominant first half from the bankers who went into the breather leading 45-3.

Black Blad hit first in the second stanza, speedy winger Archadius Khwesa taking an intercept from the centre of the pitch to make the easiest of finishes under the uprights, Gathu adding the twos to take the scores to 45-10.

Substitute Martin Owilla capitalised on intense pressure and a series of phases to burge his way over the try line, Mukidza adding the extras to take the scores to 52-10. Owillah grabbed his brace shortly afterwards before substitute scrumhalf Samuel Asati sniped from the base of the scrum to score, taking the scores to 64-10.

Ojoo added a try but Amunga couldn’t add the extras in front of the posts. Asati and Kimwele completed the job with final two tries.
