Menengai Oilers Centre Austine Sikutwa has been named the Male Player of the Year at the Magharibi Michezo Awards.
Sikutwa was awarded following his contribution that saw Oilers maintain its top-flight status in Kenya Cup during their first season. Sikutwa was also in a good form in 7s winning the top try scorer award together with Billy Odhiambo at Kabeberi 7s. The youngster was instrumental for the Nakuru based side as they reached the first-ever Floodlit finals.
He beat Kenya Cup, National 7s Circuit winner Michael Wanjala, Kenya Cup finalist John Mung’au, Kenya Cup semi-finalist Joel Inzuga and Sam Onsomu a Kenya Cup quarterfinalist to win the award.
The ladies category was won by Janet Okello who was key in Kenya Lionesses Olympic Qualification.
He joins George Nyambua on the list of the award winners in the rugby category. Vihiga High Alumnus and Homeboyz back Leonard Mugaisi was the first-ever rugby winner in 2013. A year later former Kakamega High ace Bush Mwale was crowned as the best player.
KCB’s dependable fullback Darwin Mukidza was the last player KCB player to win the award scooping it in 2015 and retaining the award in 2016.
Kabras forward George Nyambua won the award 2017 & 2018.
