Maseno and Dagoretti kicked off their rugby 15s campaign by beating Kwale and Alliance respectively in matches played at Shimo La Tewa High School at the Coast on Tuesday 9 April.
In Pool A Maseno beat Kwale 14-0. Maseno were the first ones on the scoresheet scoring a converted try in the opening half. In the final half, Paul Nyamita charges crossed over for the second converted try to collect a win.
Edward Obat dotted the first try for the Lake Region Champions with Jack Mongale adding the extras to lead 7-0. Mongale would split the posts again the second half after Thaddeus Marvin crossed over in the final half for Maseno’s second try.
Maseno will tackle Alliance on day two.
In the second match, Nairobi region winners Dagoretti overpowered Central Region champions Alliance for a 13-5 win after the final whistle. The teams went to break tied at 5-5 after getting an unconverted try each in the half.
In the final half, Dagoretti came back stronger, adding eight points from a penalty and an unconverted try. Dago will have a date with Kwale on Wednesday
Two more games will be played later in the day with Eastern Region champs Kangaru taking on the pitch to face coastal side Galana. Former Champions Kakamega close the 15s fixtures by tackling Rift Valley champs Kabianga.
The 7s matches will take place in later in the afternoon.
