The Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) on Thursday 21 June released a statement confirming the dismissal of Kenya 7s head coach Innocent Simiyu.
According to the statement, Simiyu and KRU have parted ways after the tactician took full responsibility for the concealing of the ‘Brand Kenya’ name on player’s jerseys at the Paris 7s. The players were reportedly protesting over unpaid allowances.
The Kenya Rugby Union has mutually parted ways with Kenya Sevens Head Coach Innocent Simiyu effective immediately.
He took full responsibility for the display that saw the playing unit blank out sponsor’s branding in Paris Sevens which negatively impacted our country and sponsor’s image.
We are fully aware that the Rugby World Cup Sevens is around the corner and are taking the necessary steps to ensure our participation.
With Simiyu leaving, it is not clear who will coach the side at the sevens World Cup slated for July 21-22 in San Fransisco, USA.
