Homeboyz Rugby handed Kabras the first Kenya Cup loss after 30-12 victory in a match played at Kakamega Showground on Saturday.
The match kicked off thirty minutes later after the referee delayed to reach the match venue. As the match kicked off the visitors Homeboyz seem to settle faster than their hosts.
Homeboyz fullback Tony Onyango joined the attack and managed to break the Kabras defence line for the first try of the match. Omollo Mohammed failed to add the extras. He would however amend for his early miss with a penalty kick that sent the scores to 8-0.
Forward Akenga added the second try for the Deejays and Omollo widened the gap with conversion. A break and offload from Geoffrey Shitambasi saw fly half Kevin Keegan make a 50 metre sprint and scored between the posts. He added the extras reducing the gap to seven points.
Kenya 7s international Leonard Mugaisi danced past Kabras defence from a penalty and touched down the third try of the match. Omollo added the extras.
Kabras lost flyer Keegan and eighth man Max Adaka to injury and the start of second half saw Homeboyz add three points while their second effort saw Omollo penalty hit the post before Wanjala’s drop kick went wide.
As Kabras continued to fight back Kenyan International George Nyambua was sinbinned and Homeboyz took advantage of his absence to score through William Diffu.
Kabras cut down the scores with a try but it was not enough.
Next weekend Kabras will host newbies Kisii RFC at the Kakamega Showground as Homeboyz host Blak Blad at the Jamhuri Showground.
