South Africa 7s has been dealt a major blow after it emerged that Chris Dry will be sidelined for the remainder of the 2017/18 HSBC World 7s series.

Dry,the most experienced member of the squad suffered major ligament damage in his side’s win over Fiji at the Cape Town 7s quarter finals on Sunday.

“Chris will be operated on in Cape Town and will not be able to play for between six to nine months, which means he will miss the remainder of the series,”Blitzboks team doctor Leigh Gordon confirmed.

The player’s absence will serve as a huge setback to the series defending champions ahead of the third leg slated for January 26-28 in Sydney,Australia.
