Mwamba II needed a last gasp penalty kick to see of Sportpesa Quins II 23-20 in an Eric Shirley Shield match on Saturday,9 December at the RFUEA grounds.
The second string Kulabu side raced into an early lead courtesy of a penalty kick by Elvin Okoth.Brian Chogi would extend Mwamba II’s lead to 10-0 after he went over the chalk for the first try of the match.
John Kiilu reduced the deficit to 5 points as he grabbed a try for Quins but Sosthine Oloo sent his conversion kick wide off target.
George Odipo drew the sides level with a well take try before Dennis Otieno completed what was a superb comeback,landing a converted try to send Quins II 17-10 up at the break.
Quins would be dealt a blow in the second half after Newton Partet and Edwin Okemwa were temporarily supended with Mwamba drilling in a three pointer to reduce the deficit to four points.
Mwamba II regained their lead courtesy of a converted try taking the scores to 20-17 in their favour.
Pius Shiundu levelled the scores yet again for Quins from the penalty spot but Mwamba would have the final say,Mbugua drilling in a three pointer from 40 metres out to earn Mwamba II a 23-20 win;their first win of the campaign.
In an earlier clash at the Jamhuri Park,Homeboyz II maintained top spot on the ESS log after brushing aside Impala Boks 27-12 ,ending the junior Sarries unbeaten record.
