The 2017 Sports Personality of the Year Awards (SOYA) has received a huge boost after Communications Authority of Kenya and NSSF were unveiled as the Ceremony’s co-sponsors.
The Communications Authority of Kenya (CAK) announced sponsorship of upto 1 million Kenya Shillings with NSSF deal being worth 1.5 million Kenya Shillings.
The entry of the two brands means that the event has now 3 sponsors at its disposal as Safaricom Company Limited are the main sponsors.
The nominees for this year’s awards are yet to be revealed with Watson Karuma chairing the panel that is responsible with making the nominations.
“There are a lot of youths coming up and it has been an exciting period trying to get nominees,”said Karuma during the sponsorship unveiling ceremony.
“We assure that it is going to be another very fair process so we ask for advice in order to have legitimate winners,”he added.
During last edition’s ceremony,the Kenya 7s team won the sports team of the year award for 2016 after winning the Singapore 7s under the tutelage of Benjamin Ayimba.
The 2017 awards ceremony is set to be held on 17 January 2018 at a yet to be disclosed location in Nairobi.
The SOYA Awards was founded by Paul Tergat to appreciative the exemplary series of performances in various sports disciplines by Kenya sportsmen and women.
