Timothy Makiya (brace) and Michael Gitau were both on target in their senior debut for Impala Saracens as Frank Ndong’s charges pummeled Mombasa RFC with a 48-0 score in the Kenya Cup opener at the Impala Club this Saturday,25 November.
The sarries had claimed an emphatic 84-6 win over the coastal based side the last time the sides clashed in the 2014/15 season.
Impala managed 8 tries and four conversions which sees the side earn a bonus point from matchday one.
The hosts opened the floodgates early on,prop Edgar Obino going over the chalk from a rolling maul to take a 5-0 lead,Xavier Kipng’etich sure with the extras.
On his Kenya Cup debut,Timothy Makiya would extend Impala’s lead with a well taken try but Kipng’etich sent his conversion kick wide as the gazzelles took a commanding 12-0 lead.
Another debuntant Michael Gitau,formerly at Strathmore Leos barged over between the sticks with Kipng’etich slotting home the conversion to hand Impala a 19-0 advantage at halftime.
George Okowa barged over for Impala’s fourth touch down but Kipng’etich failed to add the extras as the hosts took a 24-0 lead.
Winger Makiya would seal his brace as he managed to go over for Impala’s fifth try before Mark Kwemoi converted Samuel Motari and Anthony Nyandigisi’s tries to hand the home side an unassailable 43-0 lead before Kwemoi completed the rout with a try of his own.
At the Nakuru Athletic Club,newbies Kisii RFC were handed a rude welcome to the top tier after going down 45-5 to Nakuru RFC.
Next weekend sees the Sarries face nemesis Mwamba RFC at the Nairobi Railways Club as Mombasa chase their maiden win with a clash at home against Blak Blad.
