Menengai Oilers have taken the Kenyan Rugby scene by storm leaving every local rugby enthusiast talking about the side that has barely lasted two years since its formation.
The team’s evergreen fly-half Daniel Abuonji who was last weekend named the Impala Floodlit Most Valuable Player (MVP) in the varsities category as well as scooping the top scorer award speaks on the driving force behind the team’s superb form.
“The feeling was great.I never expected it.The Oilers management provides great support to us both on and off the pitch and that’s been the driving force behind our great results,”says Abuonji.
“My secret is that i always follow my coach’s advice who always wants us to maintain the structure, play in the right areas as well as thinking big,”he adds.
Abuonji also says that he looks upto Kenya 7s international Augustine Lugonzo whom he seeks advice from.
“I always look upto Kenya 7s international Augustine Lugonzo who is my mentor. My ambitions are to always be the best in what i do because i always set a target in every match and i ensure i achieve it.”
Oilers will be out to maintain their unbeaten run in 15s rugby when they travel to face UOE in the championship opener later today.
