Homeboyz RFC will not be in action on the opening weekend of the 2017/18 Kenya Cup season,Scrummage understands.

Head coach Paul Murunga says that the team members will be attending the funeral of former skipper Peter Wekesa on the same day that they are scheduled  to host Sportpesa Quins at Jamhuri grounds.

“We are well prepared for the new Kenya Cup season but unfortunately we shall not be in action on the opening weekend because we shall be attending the funeral of our former captain Peter Wekesa as well as his twin brother,”Murunga told Scrummage.

“We shall however start our season on matchday two when we face Nondies on 1 December,”he noted.

The development means that a new date for the matchday one fixture pitting the Deejays against Quins that had been scheduled for the Jamhuri grounds on 25 November may be set by the league’s management body.

Peter Wekesa,a former Homeboyz RFC skipper who led the side to their maiden Kenya Cup appearance 5 years ago passed on together with his brother John  on 5 November through a road accident and they will be laid to rest on 25 November.
