Former South Africa captain Jean De Villiers believes that a solid and dominant frontline can propell Kenya Simbas to the 2019 and 2023 Rugby World Cups.
The 2019 Rugby World cup is set to be hosted in Japan with De Villiers’ country South Africa the favourites to host the showpiece in 2023.
“If you look at the average Kenyan male,he’s more of an athlete, more of a runner, more of a speedy player and i suppose the challenge would be when you convert to the XVs is to find a solid tight five.Big guys that can dominate at setpiece time,”De Villiers is quoted by Nondies Rugby.
“Wouldn’t it be fantastic if Kenya can actually qualify? They would be in the same group as South Africa for 2019 first, and who knows? In 2023 if they can qualify it will be a much shorter trip,”he added.
The Kenya Simbas squad is currently honouring the Hong Kong Nations cup in Asia ahead of the World Cup qualifiers slated for next year.
