Kenya 7s tactician Innocent Simiyu has expressed optimism ahead of the side’s first pre-season assignment in South Africa this weekend.
Simiyu’s charges are set to honour the Assupol 7s tournament in Stellenbosch and the coach is optimistic of a good show.
“It is a good pool to start pre-season games with. We hope to use the structure of the tournament to test our plans and expose new players.”he told Kenya Rugby.
At the Assupol 7s, Kenya is pitted alongside hosts South Africa, England Academy and Scotland in pool A and Simiyu says that the quality of the sides will come in handy in gauging where they are.
Series level games
“We have the luxury of playing three World Series level games that will help us know where we are in relation to our preparations for the season. We believe we have the potential to perform well at the Assupol Sevens.”he added.
A team of 16 players is set to leave for South Africa tomorrow morning as they gear up towards their first clash against Scotland on Saturday at 12:00pm.
After the Assupol 7s, the team is set to conclude its pre-season in Namibia with the Safland 7s before the busy 2017/2018 schedule gets underway with the Dubai 7s on 1 December.
