Strathmore Leos coach John Mbai says that inexperience is the reason why his side failed to sparkle at the concluded Christie 7s.
The students went to the tournament without 6 of their key players including Alex Olaba and Kenya 15s international Elkeans Musonye and coach Mbai admits that this negatively impacted on his side’s performance.
“We made six changes to the team just before Christie 7s.Other absentees had injuries while some were ruled out by personal commitments, “Mbai told Scrummage.
“We had to bring in the young players to have a feel of the big stage and they were inconsistent most probably due to inexperience, ”
“It is disappointing that we failed to get through but it was a good exposure for the young lads who are still with the side for some time to come”Mbai added.
“For us, we are rebuilding and there is no other way to that so we must face it rough. Iam happy that the young players have the willingness to learn.” he concluded.
Strathmore failed to reach cup quarters for the third time this season and the Christie 7s result sees them occupy 8th position having collected 50 points ahead of the final leg.
