Kenya Cup sides KCB, Sportpesa Quins, Mwamba, Nakuru all avoided defeat on the day one of the Christie 7s played at RFUEA grounds.

KCB came from behind to beat resilent Oilers 15-14. Jacob Ojee scored after the hooter and ensured the Bankers maintain the winning record.

Toil for Homeboyz

Homeboyz had to toil for a 12-0 win against Western Bulls. Bulls managed to hold the Deejays to a goalless by halftime.

A quicky reaction by Michael Wanjala from the scrum down saw him hand Paul Murunga’s coached side a lead and added the extras by converting his try. Leonard Mugaisi raced and scored the second try that saw them qualify for quarters.

Nakuru pips Impala

Nakuru pipped Impala Saracens 7-5 to top Pool B. Samuel Motari gave the Gazelles the opening try and they  held on the lead till mid second half.

Two sinbins cost Impala the match as Nakuru took advantage of the two extra man and scored through Monate Akwei. Geoffrey Ominde converted and gave the side a win in the tight clash

Unbeaten hosts

In pool A ,Host Kenya Harlequins left it late and edged Kabras 26-24. Quins took an early lead after Allan Orofoth set up Max Theuri who scored the opening try. Fidel Oloo replied for the Sugarmen but Tanga Brian failed to convert.

Quins would have extended the lead but Philip Wokorach stopped Eric Shikuku who was on his way. Kabras would then take a lead after through Dan Sikuta after being put through by Oloo.

Orofoth try saw Quins overtake Kabras but again Wokorach’s brilliant run saw the Kakamega based side reclaim lead. Eden Agero levelled the matters but the side failed to add on the extras. Quins old boy Felix Ayange touched at the corner for Kabras and opened a five point gap. His try was not enough, Quins scored after the hooter and converted to remain unbeaten run on day one.

Nondies ended their day one journey without a win after Mwamba fought back and forced a 26 all draw. Dennis Ombachi fended off Collins Injera and dashed to the try box for the opening try. Gregory Odhiambo replied immediately with a try for Mwamba.

Ombachi ran two more tries to widen the gap before Enock Markinga scored the fourth try for Nondies. Mike Agevi scored for Kulabu but his try did not count.

Minutes later Humphrey Kayange scored the second try for Mwamba as the fight back intensified. Injera sped off past Ombachi and set up Matt Wanjia who touched down between the post. Odhaimbo got another brace of the day scoring between the post. His try was converted for a 26-26 draw.

No win

In the Pool A and B  Mean Machine and Strathmore finished their group stages matches without win after falling Kisii and MKU respectively.
