Kenyan International Willy Ambaka was not in the matchday squad as his side, Manawatu Turbos lost 46-25 to Taranaki in the Ranfury shield on Wednesday 11 October at Yarrow stadium.

Going to Wednesday’s clash, the Turbos had not won the shield since 1978 and were dealt a major blow late in the first half when prop Michael Ala’latoa was sent to the sinbin with Taranaki utilizing their numerical advantage to bag 19 points.

By the time of Ala’latoa’s sending off, Taranaki were holding a slender 8-6 lead but his absence saw his side trail 27-6 at the break courtesy of doubles by Waisake Naholo and Seta Tamanivalu.

The Turbos managed to get onto the scoresheet courtesy of 3 tries by Jamie Booth, Ambrose Curtis and Jade Terure as Otere Black slotted in 2 penalties with Terure helping himself to 2 conversions.

The win over the Turbos ensures that Taranaki will finish top of the Premiership apart from retaining the Ranfury Shield.
