Kenya 7s head coach Innocent Simiyu has lauded the level of competition in this year’s national sevens circuit.
The first four legs of the circuit have seen 4 different clubs win the main cup and Simiyu says that this shows great competition among the teams.
“I am impressed with the fact that there have been 4 different winners since the circuit kicked off. Only two teams are yet to be relegated to the Challenge trophy and this shows that the level of competition is great,”Simiyu told Scrummage.
Simiyu further added that the new approach being employed by some of the teams is commendable as it shows that sides are now moving from the previous style of play.
“Teams are moving from the previous approach where they used to go for the target man and now we see players moving into space and with that we have seen the emergence of young sides such as Oilers,Strathmore and Nakuru who are displaying a good brand of rugby,”he concluded.
The remaining two legs of the national 7s circuit are set to be played on the weekends of 14/15 and 21/22 October 2017 in Nairobi and Kisumu respectively and the players who have had an impressive season could feature for the national 7s side.
