The University of Johannesburg has successfully defended the Kings of Rugby title after thumping USIU 36-14 in a final played this Sunday,8 October 2017 at Maseno University grounds.
The South African side drew first blood,touching down for a 5-0 lead before extending their advantage to 12-0 courtesy of a converted try.
USIU finally managed to settle into the match,grabbing a try before the break to cut the deficit to 5 points.
After resumption,the Dennis Mwanja coached side took the lead for the first time in the clash as they barged over for a 14-12 lead but the South Africans hit back with a five pointer as scores read 17-12 in their favour.
Johannesburg thought they had extended their lead after touching down but the try was ruled out by the centre referee but they would pile more miseries on USIU,adding 3 more tries as they comfortably strolled to a 36-14 win ensuring that they successfully defended the title.
After falling to University of Johannesburg in the main cup semis,Kenyatta University’s Blak Blad managed to find a perfect consolation,blowing aside MKU 33-10 to claim third spot.
MMUST claimed the plate title courtesy of a comfortable 21-0 drubbing of the technical University of Mombasa (TUM).
The university of Eldoret (UOE) managed to clinch the bowl title after running in two unconverted tries to narrowly edge out SEKU 10-7.
