Homeboyz RFC left it late to fightback and beat Nakuru RFC 17-14 in a thrilling quarter final clash of the ongoing Sepetuka 7s on Sunday 1 October at The Eldoret Sports Club.
Homeboyz took the lead after Leonard Mugaisi set up Keith Wasike who touched down between the posts,a try which was converted by Michael Wanjala as the Deejays led 7-0.
Nakuru utilized the numerical advantage after a Homeboyz player was sinbinned as Geoffrey Ominde played in Nelson Oyoo who went over the whitewash between the posts to level matters.
Nakuru’s Donald Aluoch was also sent to the sin bin but Homeboyz failed to land a try with the final play of the first half as the sides went to the break evenly matched.
After resumption,Paul Murunga’s charges retook the lead as Jeff Oluoch was put through by Augustine Lugonzo before fending off Ominde to score but Wanjala’s conversion went wide with the Deejays leading 12-7.
Nakuru soon hit back as Edwin Makori picked an offload from Maina to touch down before Ominde converted to hand Wanyore a 14-12 lead but Zeden Marrow would latch onto a Jeff Oluoch Kick to touch down and send the Deejays to the semis with a 17-14 win.
Impala also booked a last 4 berth with a win over Western Bulls.After a tight opening period,Impala found a breakthrough as Kenya 7s international Derrick Mayar was set up by Samson Onsomu but Mark Kwemoi failed in his attempt to add the extras.
The Sarries were 10-0 up just before the break as Onsomu and Mayar combined yet again this time the latter putting Onsomu through for an unconverted try at the corner.
Sammy Oliech would then ensure that the Ngong Road-based side sailed to the cup semis comfortably as he raced to the tryline with Onsomu failing to convert as the clash ended 15-0 in favour of Impala.
