Kabras RFC narrowly edged out Prinsloo 7s champions KCB 15-12 in a quarter final clash at the ongoing Sepetuka 7s on Sunday,1 October at the Eldoret Sports Club.
Kabras’ quick reaction saw them land the first try courtesy of Dominic Osino before KCB levelled the scores through a try by series top points scorer Shaban Ahmed.The sugarmillers would then take a 10-5 lead with a Johnstone Mung’ao touchdown before Dan Sikuta extended their lead to 15-5 in the second half.
Kenya 7s skipper Andrew Amonde touched down for KCB at the death with Shaban adding the extras but that was not enough to secure the Prinsloo 7s champions a semi final berth as Kabras prevailed with a 15-12 scoreline.
In the fourth cup quarter final match,Menengai Oilers beat Sportpesa Quins 24-19 after sudden death to book a cup semi final slot.David Ambunya gave Quins the lead but Kenya 7s international Eden Agero failed in his attempt to add the extras with his boot.
Menengai Oilers responded as captain Harold Anduvate wrestled Quins players before touching down between the sticks as Daniel Abuonji added the extras to hand the Nakuru-based side a 7-5 lead.
Oilers then extended their lead to 14-7 moments later but Herman Humwa reduced the deficit for Quins with a converted try before Eden Agero restored his side’s advantage as he touched down to hand Quins a 19-14 lead.
Derrick Mbaire touched down for Oilers to tie the scores at 19-all,sending the match to sudden death where Sam Muregi went over to ensure Quins remained winless against Oilers in the past 3 tournaments.
