The Kenya Rugby Union has revealed that four foreign referees will be among the match officials at this year’s Driftwood sevens tournament slated for september 2-3 at the Mombasa Sports Club.
The four are Zimbabwean duo of Trust Chizikani and Michael Zvakavapano as well as Saida Adiru and Collins Mulindwa who are Ugandan nationals.
Speaking to Kenya Rugby, Kenya Rugby Referee society of Kenya secretary Alfred Okwemba said that the main aim of the idea is to expose and build the capacity of their match officials.
“This is a new initiative that the KRRS is conducting in collaboration with other refereeing bodies in Uganda and Zimbabwe as we seek to jointly expose and build the capacity of our match officials.
-They will definitely bring a different feel but will also pick up valuable lessons and we look to continue building these kinds of partnerships going forward,”said Okwemba.
The Driftwood 7s which is the first leg of the national sevens circuit will get underway at 10:00am on Saturday September 3 at the Mombasa Sports Club with defending series champions Homeboyz RFC taking on Blak Blad.
