Resolution Impala Saracens head coach Frank Ndong’ has explained the criteria used by the technical bench in arriving at the 13 players named to represent the team at the Driftwood sevens.
In a squad released on Wednesday,5 players were dropped from the initial 22-man squad that had been named earlier with 13 being given the green light to travel to the coastal town for the two-day event while 4 players will sit back as non-travelling reserves.
Speaking to Impala Saracens after the squad was named,Ndong’ said that their selection was solely based on current shape of a player and not past heroics.
He also expressed optimism ahead of the tournament where they are expected to go head to head against fellow Kenya Cup giants KCB,hosts Mombasa RFC and university side Mean Machine in pool c.
“Our basis was on current form and not history. The 13 players on the travelling list are those who are in their prime and have checked all boxes on our preparedness checklist.
-Iam pleased with preparedness and hope for a beautiful result from Driftwood 7s,”said Ndong’.
The Driftwood sevens which is slated for the weekend of September 2-3 is the first of the 6-legged national 7s circuit and Kenya Harlequins will go into the tournament as defending champions.
